TUNING IN: EMOTIONAL RESET FOR ACTORS

Where would you let yourself go if you knew you could get back safely? In this morning workshop we will explore the uncomfortable emotions we all experience in the pursuit and practice of an artistic life. Join Maria and Neil as they lead this small group through exercises for self-compassion and emotional regulation to embrace nerves, vulnerability and the unknown. Discover the depths you can access as an artist and a human being using breathwork, mindfulness, RAIN and somatic exercises.

This workshop is limited to 12 spots and offered as ‘pay what you can’ suggested pricing; payment plans available upon request.

  • In this 3-hour, small group workshop actors will identify the complex emotions that come up in the pursuit of an artistic life. We will identify and integrate tools for self-awareness, and practice exercises rooted in breathwork and mindfulness. Actors will leave this workshop with practical tools to tune in to their sense of self, and resources to regulate in moments of activation.

  • Neil D’Astolfo (he/him) is an actor, writer, comedian and certified mindfulness practitioner and teacher in New York City. For the past seven years, Neil has had the pleasure of sharing evidence-based tools to cultivate intention, relaxation and self-compassion with thousands of individuals and dozens of companies through organizations like MNDFL (where he received his training and now serves as faculty in its Certification & Training Program) and THE WELL. Neil has a particular passion for equipping artists with the resources to grow their own sense of authenticity and agency, and has had the pleasure of doing so for individuals through one-on-one coaching, for casts through group instruction and as an adjunct professor at Pace University’s Sands College of the Performing Arts since 2017. As an artist, Neil is currently a house performer at Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) Theatre where he performs on Maude Night with his sketch team Ponyboy. Neil spent three seasons as a series regular on Comedy Central’s Emmy-nominated Stephen Colbert Presents Tooning Out the News and recurred as Anthony Fauci on Showtime’s Our Cartoon President. Other TV and film credits include the upcoming season of Max’s And Just Like That…, Hulu’s High Fidelity, The Path and Fire Island. Neil also wrote and starred in his own critically-acclaimed off-Broadway solo show, Mister Miss America, which is currently being adapted for TV. He received his MFA from Columbia University and is a proud volunteer at The 52nd Street Project.
